Befesa - New Contract under the National Irrigation Plan

Befesa, through its subsidiary Construcción y Tecnología Ambiental, has been awarded a contract for more than 7 million euro to carry out the Improvement and Modernization Works of Phase I of the Babilafuente Canal User Community’s Irrigation System.

The Babilafuente Canal Irrigation User Community, with 1,127 owners, currently irrigates its 3,688 ha by means of concrete channels and earth ditches. The irrigation area is within the municipal districts of Aldealuenga, Aldearrubia, Babilafuente, Cordovilla, Encinas de Abajo, Garcihernández, Huerta, Moriñigo and San Morales, all in the province of Salamanca.

The intention is to modernize the facilities which have severely deteriorated in two phases, to enable sprinkler irrigation on demand, while eliminating current water leaks.

Phase one of the irrigation network, the object of this contract, comprises the 4,600 m long PRFV drive pipeline, with diameters from 1,400 to 1,600 mm that runs from the pumping station to the accumulation reservoir, five 35 m3 hydro-pneumatic drums to absorb the transitory regimes, a 250,000 m3 capacity reservoir, and the irrigation system distribution piping network for sectors 1, 2 and 3 with their corresponding water hydrants and draw-offs.

This project, which is part of the National Irrigation Plan, has been awarded by the public body Sociedad Estatal de Infraestructuras Agrarias del Norte S.A., dependent on the Ministry of Agriculture, in virtue of the agreements it has signed, following proposals by the Department of Agriculture and Stock-farming of the Regional Government of Castilla and León, with the Babilafuente Canal Irrigation User Community for works to be carried out in the irrigation area.
