Befesa closes the sale of Befesa Plásticos to GWE Plastics

Befesa has closed the sale of 100 % of its agricultural plastics recycling business, Befesa Plásticos, to GWE Plastics, a Spanish company specialized in the manufacturing of plastic compounds from the recycling of used plastics. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Befesa Plásticos specializes in manufacturing of Glass Fiber Polypropylene (GFPP) compounds from recovered glass fiber, and production of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) materials from the recycling of foils used in agriculture to cover crops or as cover in greenhouses. Befesa Plásticos’ annual sales amount to approx. 10 million euros and has a team of around 40 professionals. The two production sites are located in the same area in Alhama de Murcia, in south-east Spain, and have a combined annual production capacity of around 20.000 tons.

After the sale of the sulphuric acid production business on December 2015, this transaction is another successful step in Befesa’s strategy to focus on its core activities, which mainly include the recycling of metallic residues from the steel and aluminium industries.
