Nerva Industrial Waste Centre sponsors two sports clubs and collaborates with a handicapped association

Nerva (Huelva), 19 November 2008. Nicolás Chaves, manager of the Nerva industrial waste centre of Befesa Gestión de Residuos Industriales, today announced sponsorship worth 2,600 euro for various groups in the town. The beneficiaries are Nerva Football Club and Nerva Handball Club, which are receiving 1,000 euro each, and the Athenea handicapped association, which is receiving 600 euro. This is the first time that the company has collaborated with the Athenea association, although Befesa has sponsored local sports clubs for ten years.

The presentation ceremony, which took place in the offices of the waste centre, was attended by the presidents of the three recipient groups: Alfonso Herrera Rodríguez from the handball club; Antonio Méndez, president of the football team; and Daniel Carrasco, the treasurer for Athenea.

In his speech following the presentation of the cheques, Nicolás Chaves said that Befesa "will continue to support associations in Nerva", and went on to say that collaborations with local associations and projects "are an example of the company’s commitment to this town". The plant manager said, "We are part of this town and as such we want to support as many initiatives as possible".

During this year the Nerva industrial waste centre has sponsored cultural activities such as the music conservatory as well as events for screening short films and painting in Nerva. It has also collaborated in the publication of the magazine Nervae. The sponsorship donated during the year has included social donations to entities such as the Ayuda al Pueblo Saharaui charity (supporting communities in the Sahara) or the children’s party of the "Pirulitos" neighbourhood association. The Nerva centre will also participate and subsidise the 2nd Conferences on Protecting the Environment and Cultural Heritage organised by the University of Huelva, the International Centre for Ecological and Environmental Studies and Conventions (CIECEM), and the Command of the Civil Guard of Huelva.
