Befesa enters the North America marketplace with the acquisition of NRS Consulting Engineers

Madrid, October 13, 2008. Befesa Medio Ambiente has today announced the agreement reached to acquire, through its subsidiary Befesa Agua, fifty-one percent of the American Company NRS Consulting Engineers which is dedicated to detailed engineering and construction of water plants.

NRS Consulting Engineers is one of the leading engineering companies in the subterranean and brine water desalination sector in Texas, where it has designed almost thirty percent of the treatment facilities the State of Texas has for this type of water. It is the only company that designs, builds and pilots desalination projects.

NRS also designs and builds other facilities for water supply, treatment, reuse, irrigation management and other leading-edge methods for treating surface and subterranean waters. It has a turnover of 7.5 million dollars and will incorporate a team of 40 highly qualified professionals.

This acquisition will enable exploitation of the capacity and experience-related synergies of both companies to allow the development of large desalination projects in the States with the greatest potential such as Texas, California and Florida, while utilizing sustainable technologies and solutions that improve integral efficiency in the entire water cycle.

According to Befesa`s Chairman, Javier Molina, "this acquisition represents Befesa`s entry into the United States through a company highly specialized in desalination, providing us with the opportunity to grow in this promising market".

Befesa is Abengoa’s environmental services subsidiary. It is an international company specialized in integral industrial waste management, and in water management and generation. Its activities focus on providing environmental services to industry and construction of environmental infrastructures.
