Befesa acts immediately to clean up a spill from a truck from Palos waste center

Huelva, May 12, 2008. This afternoon, Palos de la Frontera Waste Center activated the usual protocol on a road in the municipal district of Riotinto following a spillage of part of the load from a truck from these facilities that was transporting non-hazardous waste. Befesa’s environmental services company that manages said center informed the Department of the Environment immediately of the occurrence and cleaned up the affected section of the road with its own equipment.

The spill, from which the public was not in any danger, occurred at 16:00 hours on Monday, May 12, at km point 49.5 on the A461 in the vicinity of the town of Riotinto, in Huelva. The spill occurred as a consequence of the accidental opening of the truck’s rear cargo door. The collection tasks will finish today.

Befesa hereby wishes to remind the public that trucks loaded with wastes for its centers are subject to very strict regulations that oblige Public Administration being informed of incidents that may occur on any road throughout Andalusia when it occurs. The protocol followed responds to the Transport Sector Emergency Plan that establishes the necessary measures for fast and efficient action in the event of an accident. Last year, Befesa signed an agreement with several transport companies and associations to improve safety and security conditions while traveling.
