Befesa, the international company awarded the highest number of prizes by the prestigious magazine Global Water Intelligence

The prize-giving ceremony for the Global Water Intelligence magazine awards was held on April 2 and 3. It is the world’s most prestigious international magazine in the water sector. The prizewinners are chosen by more than 600 of its subscribers worldwide. The "Global Water Awards" have been established in eleven different categories to recognize and reward the innovation and commitment of the companies dedicated to the development of the Water Sector.

Befesa CTA was awarded 3 prizes: The 2006 prize for the best international hydraulic infrastructure concession company for the development of and commitment to the implementation of innovative projects in the world of water. Its competitors in this category were ACWA Power Projects, Suez Energy, and Poseidon Resources. It also received the 2006 prize for the best Project of the Year for the Beni Saf Plant (Algeria). The design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of this plant are the responsibility of the Geida consortium, comprising Befesa (Abengoa), Codesa (Abengoa), Cobra (ACS), and Sadyt (Sacyr-Vallermoso). The prize recognizes the best project signed during the course of 2006 that represents the most significant advance for the industry in terms of financial innovation and in especially complex circumstances. The other nominated projects were those of Hadera in Israel, Torrevieja in Spain, and the Chennai Minjur project in India, where Befesa is participating together with its local partner IVRCL. In the category for the 2006 Best Desalination Plant, the silver prize went to the Cartagena plant (phases I and II), developed by Befesa, Degremont, and Acciona. This prize is awarded to the project that represents the most impressive technical achievement in the industry during the course of last year.

Befesa CTA was represented at the prize-giving ceremony by Guillermo Bravo, its CEO, Carlos Cosin Fernandez, General Manager of its International Division, and by Joaquin Fernandez de Pierola Marin, Manager of International Business and Investment Development.

In addition to the awards ceremony organized by Global Water Intelligence, a two-day cycle of conferences on matters related to Water at worldwide level was held. Carlos Cosin participated therein as moderator in relation to The Development of New Markets.
