Befesa Zinc Sondika has its Environmental Management System certified according to standard UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2004

Befesa Zinc Sondika, a company belonging to the Zinc Waste Recycling Business Unit, has obtained the Environmental Management Certificate pursuant to standard UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2004 established by the Spain Standardization and Certification Association (AENOR). This certificate guarantees that Befesa Zinc Sondika meets all the requirements established in said standard, while also having continuous improvement mechanisms defined as objectives to ensure that its activity is conducted in an environment-friendly manner.

The certificate covers the production of Zinc Oxide that Befesa Zinc Sondika carries out at its Biscay Works. These Works, dedicated to the production of zinc oxide through the valorization of wastes with high zinc content, the treatment of which has increased 32% on the previous year's volume, has also achieved a 12% increase in production capacity by means of different improvements that have been made to the production process. The generation of subproducts has also increased this year and they have either been sold directly or stored for reutilization purposes.

All the systems have been audited by qualified independent teams of auditors that have nothing to do with the production line. The strategic objective of the company holding quality management, environmental management, and occupational risk prevention system certificates in accordance with their respective standards and/or specifications, has now been achieved.

The implementation and certification of an environmental management system in all Befesa companies is one of its main objectives pursuant to its environmental policy. Within this framework, all the Companies are obliged to set objectives in relation to reducing natural resource consumption and waste generation.
