Befesa participated in Aqua 2006, the 3rd Water Management Conference

Aqua 2006 is the 3rd edition of the Water Management Conference which was organized by the Andalusia Water Agency on March 1 and 2. This edition, inaugurated by the councilor for the environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Ms Fuensanta Coves, in the presence of the director general for water of the Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Jaime Palop Piqueras, focused on strategies, political and economical tools, and resources for the public-private management of water and for the funding of its infrastructures and services, within the framework of community quality demands and policy and program objectives for the resource.

Befesa organized a monographic session entitled "Desalination as an alternative water source", which was presented by Guillermo Bravo, managing director of Befesa Construcción y Tecnología Ambiental. Subsequently, Jorge Salas Orta, special projects chief, chaired a conference on the technological aspects of desalination, where he stressed the influence of technological advances in desalination costs and the techniques for conducting this activity with reverse osmosis. In addition, Joaquin Fernandez de Pierola Marin, the company's commercial and foreign business development manager, coordinated the session related with the environmental and social aspects of desalination. He also presented a paper on the company's experience in international financing of BOT infrastructures. This addition was attended by expert water authorities such as Miguel Torres, head of the water quality department of the Cedex, and Antonio Rodriguez Leal, director general of the Andalusia Mediterranean Basin. Finally, the session was brought to a close by Guillermo Bravo, who established the growing importance of desalination as an alternative water source worldwide.

Befesa's interesting participation in Aqua 2006, considered a success due to the quality of the interventions, was accompanied at the end of the day by a dinner organized by the company in the Palace of the Countess of Lebrija, attended by numerous authorities from the water sector in Spain, of note among which was Ms Fuensanta Coves, councilor for the environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
