Befesa participates in the Workshop "ITER Opportunities for European Industry"

On the 13 and 14 of last December, Befesa participated, through its subsidiary Befesa Fluidos, in the "ITER Opportunities for European Industry" workshop, promoted by the EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) with the aim of providing European industry with opportunities to provide the engineering and supply components for the ITER experimental fusion reactor. This is an international research and development project that will be executed in Cadarache, France, with an estimated investment of 4,750 million euro. Some 3,000 jobs are expected to be created.

Six large powers are participating in the design and construction of the ITER, and Europe is in a predominant position among them, not only because it will house the experimental fusion reactor but also because it will be responsible for supplying around 50% of the entire installation. The other participating powers are the United States, Japan, South Korea, China and India, who will supply the rest, each in equal proportion.

The workshop was staged in Barcelona by the CIEMAT (Energy, Environment and Technology Research Center) and the opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Barcelona, Joan Clos, the Director General of the CIEMAT, Juan Antonio Rubio, the Director of the European Commission's Department of Energy, Pablo Fernandez-Ruiz, and the Director General for Technological Policy, Carlos Alejaldre.

Areva, Ansaldo, Accel, the CIEMAT, CDTI, Enea, FZK, Noell Nuclear, TNO, etc., were among the companies and bodies with a stand at the event. Befesa participated with a wall chart focused on treatment plants for industrial process and wastewaters exhibited in the Industrial Technological Development Center's (CDTI) stand. This is a Public Enterprise Company, under the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, that promotes Spanish Company innovation and technological development. Its objective is to contribute to enhancing the technological level of Spanish companies.

Once again, Befesa is to be found at the forefront of the companies that promote innovation and research in the energy sector.
