Befesa’s Aluminum and Salts Recycling Business Unit has been EMAS certified

The Aluminum and Salts Recycling Business Unit of Befesa Alumino Bilbao has been awarded the EMAS European environmental management certificate. The certificate was presented by the Basque Government’s Councilor for the Environment, Mr. Sabin Intxaurraga. Befesa was represented at the presentation ceremony by the Business Unit’s Quality, Prevention and Environment Manager, Oskar de Diego Rodriguez.

The Aluminum and Salts Recycling Business Unit is committed to the periodic elaboration of a public environmental statement which includes its most important environmental data and the results of its environmental program. Through the trust put in environmental management, the Business Unit has undertaken to inform the public of its future objectives for environmental performance enhancement while also making transparency the governing principle in its environmental policy.

In addition to the certification according to the Standard EC 761/01 EMAS, Befesa Aluminio Bilbao also has an environmental management system implemented according to the standard ISO 14001:1996 and a quality management system according to the standard ISO 9001:2000, since 1999 and 1995, respectively. This indicates that the obtaining of the EMAS European certificate is further recognition of the advances made by Befesa in environmental management and it reflects the interest shown in implementing good environmental management with a view to reducing the impact derived from its production processes.
