Befesa sells its terrain in Barakaldo

Barakaldo, February 1, 2008. - Befesa has formalized the sale of the site of its operational desulphurization facility to Iurbenor Promociones, S.A., for an amount greater than 44 million euros, under the Sefanitro Special Plan for Interior Reform (PERI) for the municipality of Barakaldo (Biscay).

The site will be handed over to Iurbenor within a time schedule that assures transfer of the activity to another location. This agreement will allow the existing plant to remain fully operational in complete coordination with Iurbenor Promociones, S.A’s urban development plan for the area.

Thanks to maintenance of the activity of the existing plant, Befesa will avoid closure of the same and, therefore, loss of jobs. Befesa already has a site reserved in the vicinity of Bilbao Port and is currently in the process of obtaining the corresponding environmental license.

The company Befesa Desulfuración focuses mainly on producing sulfuric acid and oleum (a compound rich in SO3) from residual sulfur recovered in petrochemical sector plants. Befesa’s existing and future plant allow the environmental problems experienced by oil companies to be resolved through utilization of the cleanest and safest risk-free process for the environment.

The activity of Befesa, Abengoa’s environmental services subsidiary, focuses on providing environmental services for industry and construction of environmental infrastructures. It is a listed company that closed the 2007 financial year with share capitalization of more than 550 million euro. (
