Aguas de Bilbao consortium chooses Befesa to construct Ugarte-Kareaga sewer

Madrid, 19 July 2006. The Aguas de Bilbao consortium has awarded Befesa Construcción y Tecnología Ambiental, the Befesa Medio Ambiente subsidiary, the contract for more than €8 million, to construct the Ugarte-Kareaga sewer and the set of interceptors required to collect waste water in the region.

The Aguas Bilbao Vizcaya consortium is a public entity created to supply water and sewerage to 54 municipalities, which represent 90% of the population of Vizcaya. The most important services that it manages include sewerage and water supply to the primary network, control of industrial spills and management of solid waste matter.

The sewer that Befesa will construct begins in the El Juncal district and will collect waste waters from this area and the Ugarte-Alde estate. It then runs parallel to the El Juncal highway to the buildings located at the intersection of the A-8 motorway, collecting the waste from these buildings. It goes on to collect waste from Grupo Lehendakari Aguirre and calle Colón before reaching the towns of Trapaga and Baracaldo where it finally connects to the Nervión-Ibaizábal interceptor. This project will also include the integral management of all waste generated by the planned works, helping to preserve the environment.

Javier Molina, Befesa chairman said, "We are extremely pleased by the trust shown by the Aguas de Bilbao consortium in a project of this size and we are sure that the result will be highly satisfactory for both parties. This contract represents an important step for Befesa's northern office in terms of public water management."
