Befesa is to construct two new sewage plants in Toledo

Madrid, 9th of August. The firm Codesa, a subsidiary of Befesa, head of Abengoa business in environmental services, has been awarded the construction of the sewage plants for the towns of Corral de Almaguer and Cabezamesada, to the east of Toledo, for over two and a half million Euros.

These works form part of the health plan that the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla La Mancha has put into operation through the organisation, "Aguas de Castilla -La Mancha", in order to resolve the problem of waste water dumping in urban centres and to achieve a substantial improvement in the water quality, which favours Castilla-La Mancha as being one of the communities with the best environmental protection in its territory.

These towns, where Befesa is to construct the sewage plants, are noteworthy by having large population fluctuations between summer and winter, which means that the type of plant to be constructed must be able to adapt to large flow rate variations. In the case of Corral de Almaguer, the plant is designed for 20,000 inhabitants and will employ biological treatment by means of prolonged aeration, through two "carrousel-type" oxidation channels. Cabezamesada has decided on anaerobic treatment using settling tanks and biodiscs, and will provide service to more than 1,000 inhabitants. Both sewage plants will take the treated water to the Riánsares stream, which flows into the river Algodor, an affluent of the Tajo.

For Javier Molina, the Befesa President, "The construction of these two new sewage plants by Befesa, will provide service to a population of over 21,000 inhabitants, employing technology that contemplates the large population fluctuations that occur in these regions and, at the same time, we will contribute to Castilla-La Mancha being one of the communities with greatest respect for the environment."
