The public water company Apa Serv Alexandria has awarded Befesa the contract to expand the Videle treatment plant in Romania

The public company Apa Serv Alexandria, which is responsible for managing water supply and treatment in Teleorman County in Romania, has awarded Befesa Agua the contract to design and construct the extension and renovation of the waste water treatment plant in Videle, Romania, worth more than three million Euros .

The plant receives waste water from the town of Videle in the northeast of the county, as well as waste water from its industrial area. After recently joining the European Union, the country needs to adapt the quality of its waste water to meet the requirements of EU regulations.

The awarded project consists of enlarging the treatment capacity of the existing plant to 1,400 cubic metres per day. The treatment process consists of a compact pre-treatment with a fine gauge grate, primary settling, biological treatment and secondary settling. The biological treatment is based on a process of medium-load activated sludge and aeration using diffusers in two equal-size reactors, with the possibility of nitrification and de-nitrification, and with anaerobic chambers to allow phosphorus to be removed biologically.

This new contract is a good example of how Befesa Agua is transferring its extensive experience to countries that have recently joined the European Union, continuing its international expansion in the water market. The company has consolidated its presence in regions such as North Africa, India, China, Latin America or the USA, with six desalination plants under 25 year concession agreements, as well as having subsidiaries such as Befesa Infrastructure India or Befesa WaterBuild (USA).
