To contribute to a sustainable world…

• We manage more than 2.2 Mt of industrial waste, allocating 1.2 Mt to the production of new materials through recycling.
• Our waste recycling activities prevent the emission of more than 0.7 Mt of CO₂ per year.

Our milestones for activity:

• • Steel waste recycling

    Befesa manages ordinary steel and stainless steel waste as well as waste from galvanization in a way that does not affect the environment. These activities prevent the pointless loss of tons of these metals, limiting the waste and contributing to the reduction of zinc mining and the extraction of other natural metals.

    • In 2010, we recycled 562,308 t of steel powder, producing 170,280 t of wäelz oxide. The share of the refined product (D-L.W.O. ®) has been similar to the previous period, reaching 104,684 t produced.
    • In 2010 we treated 91,623 t of stainless steel powder, which was used to manufacture 42,811 t of nickel and other metals alloys and thus avoiding their extraction from nature.
    • 100% of the products that we produce in Befesa are recycled products, which reduce the extraction of new raw materials.
    • In our stainless steel recycling plants a major part of the energy necessary to obtain the same product is avoided by means of primary treatments.
  • Aluminum waste recycling
    • Befesa recycles aluminum waste without producing new waste in the recycling process, thus closing the cycle in a perfect manner.
    • Our aluminum waste recycling activities allow the least extraction of the bauxite from which aluminum is obtained. Therefore, the recycling industry makes it possible to keep this raw material available for future generations.
    • In 2010, Befesa recycled nearly 175,000 t of wastes with aluminum content, reaching a production and sale of 105,000 t of alloys, which avoided the direct emission of 1Mt CO₂ equivalent.
    • In 2010, the salt slag recycling has prevented the extraction of 267,100 t of non-renewable raw materials (salts and mineral oxides), while avoiding the dumping of 224,200 t of hazardous waste.
    • Our aluminum waste recycling activities reduce the consumption of energy by 95% compared to the primary treatment, thus also making it possible to reduce the consumption of other raw materials such as fuel.

    We specialize in providing environmental services to industry. Our goal is to recycle and re-evaluate the waste by incorporating the latest technologies into the designing of specific solutions for each client and each sector, while respecting the environment.

    For waste management, the rule of the three R’s: "Reduce", "Reuse" and "Recycle", starting from the premise that the best waste is waste that is not produced. Waste is understood to be any material resulting from a manufacture, transformation, utilization, consumption or cleanup process, when the party in possession thereof abandons it.

    • In Befesa we manage wastes in a manner that is respectful of the environment, working in the installations of the customer and reducing the quantity of wastes generated at origin.

    • In 2010 Befesa managed a total of 941,665 t of industrial waste. The 28% are hazardous industrial waste.
