Environment

Befesa shows constant concern for the environment where it carries out its activities, and at the same time seeks sustainable development, in other words, the use of the environment and the natural resources in a rational, sustainable manner. It is therefore necessary to identify and control all of the impacts derived from its activity to be able to minimize their effect on the environment, through the use of technologies that allow the said impacts to be foreseen, or through mitigating or corrective technologies.

This commitment to the environment is reflected in the organizational structure of the company and the environmental principles on which the environmental policy of the company is based. There follow the principles of the said policy:

  • Befesa considers the protection and preservation of the environment a priority objective.
  • It complies with the legislation and regulations applied to the company, and those applicable to its processes and activities, along with other requirements that the company might take on, either with customer or parties concerned.
  • It promotes a responsibility commitment among all the employees for performing jobs with environmental criteria in any activity they perform or order and in all the decisions taken.
  • It promotes a comprehensive service in waste management as an offer to companies. This process first of all presents the prevention that avoids waste generation. Secondly, the recycling of that generated for later use as a source of energy; and thirdly, the sending of that which can not be recycled to elimination centers that are safe and guarantee techniques in accordance with sustainable development.
  • It proposes constant control of the impacts of its productive processes on the environment.
  • It enhances permanent dialogue with the authorities and business associations on subjects of environmental protection and safety, and the nurturing of relations of good neighborliness and informative transparency with the citizens and social organizations.
  • It advises and helps customers in all matters related to handling their industrial waste, so that this might be done hazard-free and with maximum guarantees of safety.

Given the importance of the environment for Befesa, each business unit has a person responsible for quality and the environment, who co-ordinates the environmental activity of all the work centers, in addition to encouraging the progressive introduction and later certification of their Environmental Management Systems according to ISO 14001 and the EMAS European Ecomanagement System, which provide continuous control of the possible our activity on the environment.
